Asthma is a chronic condition that affects the airways, making it difficult to breathe. Proper management and regular testing are essential for maintaining good respiratory health and preventing asthma attacks. Our clinic offers comprehensive asthma care, including spirometry tests, periodic checkups, and personalized asthma action plans.
Spirometry is a key diagnostic tool used to measure lung function and assess asthma control. This test is performed in our clinic and provides valuable information about your child's lung capacity and airflow.
Purpose: Spirometry measures how much air your lungs can hold and how quickly you can exhale. This helps to determine the extent of airway obstruction.
Duration: The test usually takes about 1 hour to complete, including both pre- and post-inhalation treatment tests.
Preparation: On the day of the test, unless your child is experiencing symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, or a continuous cough, avoid giving their inhaler before the test. This ensures the most accurate results.
Initial Test: Your child will perform the breathing test to measure baseline lung function.
Inhalation Treatment: The provider may ask your child to use their inhaler between tests. Be sure to bring the inhaler to the appointment.
Post-Inhalation Test: The test will be repeated after the inhalation treatment to compare the results.
Review and Diagnosis: Once testing is completed, the provider will review the results with you and your child.
Treatment Plan: A diagnosis will be made, and a personalized medication regimen will be discussed to manage your child's asthma effectively.
Proper asthma management involves regular checkups and adjustments to the treatment plan as needed. Our services include:
Periodic Asthma Checkups: Regular visits to monitor your child's asthma control and adjust medications if necessary.
Asthma Action Plan: Development of a personalized asthma action plan to help manage symptoms and prevent asthma attacks.
Peak Flow Rechecks: Periodic peak flow meter tests to monitor your child's lung function and ensure their asthma is well-controlled.
Symptom Monitoring: Keep track of your child's asthma symptoms and triggers to help prevent flare-ups.
Medication Adherence: Ensure your child takes their asthma medications as prescribed, even when they feel well.
Emergency Preparedness: Know how to handle asthma emergencies and keep rescue medications accessible.
