Dr. Florence Cabalteja Roque was born in a small, rural town and raised in a metropolitan city of the Philippine islands. Today, living and practicing in Deming reminds her of similar simple rural living, while appreciating the modern conveniences of surrounding cities-- Las Cruces, NM and El Paso, TX. Dr. Roque and her husband Joel are actively involved locally through the activities of their church, and internationally through their charity arm, JoFlo Outreach International (JOI) Foundation.
After high school, Dr. Roque attended and completed her bachelor’s degree with honors at Johnson University (previously Johnson Bible College), in Knoxville, TN, with a major in Bible and Youth Ministry. While serving as a youth director for 6 years, at an inner-city church in Chicago, she met her lifetime love and now business partner, Joel Roque, who was also working with the youth and young adults at his church. During that time, it became clear to the couple that there was a great need for wholistic intervention among children and youth in the community. Hence, she continued and graduated with another bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Maternal-Child Nursing and finally with a doctorate’s degree with clinical honors in Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care, with Genetics as a subspecialty, at Rush University (Rush Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center) in the windy city, Chicago. IL. She has been nationally board-certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board since 2008 and is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
After 9 years of working in the inner cities of Chicago, the Roques relocated for the warmer climate of Phoenix, where they stayed for 5 years. Today, with over 20 years professional experience in pediatric primary care, asthma, allergy, and congenital disorders, Dr. Roque offers extensive knowledge in prevention of acute illnesses and treatment of pediatric disorders. Her multi-cultural background enriches her expertise in communicating with children and parents from all walks of life the importance of health promotion. Dr. Roque’s wholistic approach is evident throughout the services that the clinic provides, such as well child checks, allergy, asthma and other diagnostic evaluations. She also refers to and collaborates with appropriate pediatric specialists and with community resources.
For their leisure activities, the Roques enjoy traveling with their adopted daughter, Johanna Faith, who will continue home schooling as a 4th grader via an accredited home school curriculum. She loves taking dance lessons locally, and remote Mandarin and violin classes, as well as actively participating in kids’ church. A trilingual herself, she is beginning to learn Spanish to add to her fast-growing linguistic abilities.
